Lee Jeffries
Lee Jeffries is a freelance photographer based in Manchester. At the beginning of his photographic career he started off photographing sporting events until he had a chance meeting with a young homeless girl on the streets of London. After this his artistic approach was changed forever, he made the homeless the subjects of his art.
His work consists of square format close-up portraits of homeless people that he has met around Europe and the United States. Before taking his shots he makes an effort to get to know his subjects. By doing this it helps him to empathise with these people and allows him to better portray their stories through these haunting portraits.Lee Jeffries also always offers these people money or food to thank them for what they have done. He works full time as an accountant but hopes to become a war photographer/photojournalist.
Lee Jeffries work inspired me for my project by how he has managed to capture this striking portraits that really encase each individual story. Looking through his images is like reading a book, each page adds something else to the tale.

Lee Jeffries lives in Manchester in the United Kingdom. Close to the professional football circle, this artist starts to photograph sporting events. A chance meeting with a young homeless girl in the streets of London changes his artistic approach forever. Lee Jeffries recalls that, initially, he had stolen a photo from this young homeless girl huddled in a sleeping bag. The photographer knew that the young girl had noticed him but his first reaction was to leave. He says that something made him stay and go and discuss with the homeless girl. His perception of the homeless completely changes. They become the subject of his art. The models in his photographs are homeless people that he has met in Europe and in the United States: "Situations arose, and I made an effort to learn to get to know each of the subjects before asking their permission to do their portrait."From then onwards, his photographs portray his convictions and his compassion to the world.
