Abstract:
The world is combating the climate crisis, and a key challenge is reducing CO2 emissions from the heavy transport sector, such as aviation and shipping. In this context, biofuels, for instance, produced via Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL), offer a promising solution that can replace fossil fuels in the short and medium term. This dissertation contains a comprehensive investigation of HTL's potential, addresses critical commercialization challenges, and proposes sustainable solutions to promote this technology in the fight against the climate crisis.
HTL can handle both dry and wet waste materials in the production of bio-oil, but the composition of the feedstock significantly affects oil yield and product quality. Achieving commercialization requires scaling up the technology. In this regard, reliance on a single feedstock can limit the size of HTL facilities. Therefore, mixtures of different feedstocks are an interesting research area. This dissertation explores potential synergies by mixing sewage sludge and wheat st
